In years gone by the bride's family, Father/Mother, would have been responsible for sending out the wedding invitations to the guests.
Modern day has somewhat changed that protocol, as we sometimes have shared expenses now, with both sets of parents, bride and grooms,contributing.
Or some couples now look after their own costs for the wedding, and as there are many 2nd/3rd/4th and more marriages, parents are no longer responsible financially, so couples bear their own costs and will send out and word invitations accordingly.
Anything really is acceptable and 'goes' in this day and age.

Dear Angela,
Peter & Susana Schofield would like you to join them to celebrate the marriage of their daughter
Jacqueline to Sam Agnew
at The Royal Botanic Gardens Maiden Pavilion & Band Lawn on Friday 11th February 2005 at 4pm
Then afterwards at the Man-O-War Jetty Sydney Opera House from 6.30pm
